A highly informative post. Energy saving is become more and more important as awareness has been raised in recent years. This stretches not only to energy saving curtains and blinds as you have mention but energy saving doors too. Creating that airtight seal helps keep heat in, and as such, reduces energy costs. These all naturally complement each other.

I would strongly advise people to practice on false walls before they go and try the real thing as errors can occur easily and escalate quickly. However, this gives a really well structured explanation which has sufficient details.

The curtains in the bottom two pictures are a really great example of how effective they can be. Prior to their installation the room looked cold and way to exposed. Once the had been installed the room instantly feels more complete and warm.

Hi there, we are buying a house with some unusually shaped windows which, at the moment have no window coverage at all. The two bedrooms at the top of the house are triangular and sloping. The window is 2m at the base and 1m from base to tip. There is quite a deep recess between the wall and window. I would like to make it as dark as possible. I don’t have exact measurements at the moment but would be interested to know if you think it would be possible to come up with a solution.

A really informative post, it's always great to get some tips to reduce heat loss, the thermo imaging photo really shows how much heat is lost. It's brilliant that you have given a good range of tips, lots of people wouldn't think about radiator cabinets, so it's wonderful that you have included this.
